Make up from 35 to 50 of the world’s population.  If they did not war amongst themselves and with the other peoples they would probably make up 70 to 80 percent of the world’s population due to their high birthrates.  Humans can be found everywhere doing all things and come in all shapes and colors found on Earth, and all different levels of technology from hunter-gather tribes to early-industrial nation states (important note about this point at the end of this entry).

It is thought by some humans that the elves and dwarves encourage the wars that humans have with one another.  Many human kings and lords have had their wars bankrolled by dwarven banks, so it is said. Not all elves and dwarves have such ulterior motives and views of humans, but some do.  And would it not be be better for the elves and dwarves if the humans were trying to kill themselves instead?

As the elves tend to stay to their forests and most dwarves to their hills and mountains humans have been left to monopolize seafaring (although rich, merchant dwarves over the past couple to few centuries have been getting into this venture and making their presence known) . The most prosperous, stable, and secure of human cities, city-states, and nations are along the great lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans of the world.  Having said that, many humans live in the open areas of the world, the productive plains, undulating hills, dales, and small woods engaged in agriculture.  The problem is that these areas are hotly contested over due to their agricultural productivity and thus wealth and stability. One recent, human war left over 18 thousand acres of land unusable for agricultural purposes for over thirty years.

Humans are called the younger race by Elves because elves believe they were created first, or maybe because elves live longer and to them humans are like impudent children.  Elves have twisted and erased a fair bit of humanity’s history in retaliation for humans trying to take elven lands.  Humans do not know their history that well in general for several reasons: time; the War of the Gods and the mortal holy wars that followed; never-ending human wars with one another; and the retaliatory activities of the elves.  A mission for adventurers/players could be in simply trying to find info about humanity’s past.  The dwarves have knowledge, records, of humanity’s past and to keep good relations with both elves and humans, sparingly let select humans find said historical knowledge (non magical, of course).

Can find some human embassies in both the lands of elves and dwarves – more often dwarves.  Dependent upon the history of the parties in a particular area – rare that elves would allow humans into their lands (a few elven communities do). The elven and dwarven communities that do allow human embassies or other presence on their lands do so on the edges/outskirts.

The most dangerous monsters in the Mortal World are collectively, and some individually, humans. There are groups of elves, dwarves, and ameya that would like to end the human scourge/problem.  Some of these people are looking at the problem logically and see that humanity will never quell its appetite for land and resources and these elves, dwarves, and ameya are simply trying to protect their own. Some amongst these peoples are more vengeful and want to destroy humanity and take back what humanity stole. There are also the greedy that make use of the logical and the vengeful. And of course there are individuals that are some mix of logical, vengeful, and/or greedy and humanity must be dealt with . . will be dealt with.

It is important and necessary to note that not all human societies at this time on Aeris are organized, somewhat industrialized, nation states that for centuries, as they developed politically and technologically, have been encroaching on and trying to conquer the lands of the ameya, dwarves, and/or elves. Some human societies have never been like this, nor are likely to be. There are still millions of humans that belong to traditional tribal societies, far away from large cities and castles. And that a number of these tribes of humans themselves have been encroached upon, and warred upon by other humans of other tribes and societies of differing levels of technology. Some of these tribes of humans have been destroyed and their lands taken; some beaten and they and their lands made part of larger nation states; some forced to flee their homes; some had their cultures repressed and are forced to adapt into the other human society that defeated them. Some of theses human tribes live side-by-side in harmony with the elves and dwarves. There are societies of humans at every level of technology all around Aeris and their relationships with one another can be complicated and bloody. Currently on Aeris (and for some centuries) you will find a much greater variety of beliefs, socio-economic structures, and levels of technology within humanity than compared to the internal workings of dwarven and elven societies.
