My August Ritual: Dungeons and Dragons 80’s cartoon!

Spread the love

A few years ago I decided to start watching cartoons from my youth and one of my favorites was the Dungeons and Dragons 80’s cartoon. I was just a little guy (being born in ’77) but I still remembered a few of the episodes and how great they were – the one where Eric is the dungeon master and conjures up a roc; Presto losing Uni; Hank having to betray his friends. I liked a lot of stuff on t.v. when I was a kid but I really looked forward to that Dungeons and Dragons Saturday morning cartoon. It was the last cartoon they showed on Syracuse, NY’s CBS channel 5, I think at 11 or 11:30 A.M. It was a great way to end the morning and transition into Saturday afternoon, especially with each Dungeons and Dragons episode ending with that wonderful music – it’s one of my favorite things about the show today. But hearing that music also makes me a little sad though because it means the episode, that day’s adventure, is over and I have to wait until next week. At least that’s what I thought as a kid. I knew shows had seasons so when the next Saturday rolled around and Dungeons and Dragons wasn’t on I guessed it was over until after summer. Little did I know my favorite show wouldn’t be coming back. But at least I can enjoy them now whenever I want, but only in August – that way my summer can end on a special note.

Dungeons and dragons cartoon Requiem

As stated in Wikipedia: “The intended final episode from the third season, and potential series finale, entitled “Requiem”, was written by the series’ frequent screenwriter Michael Reaves, but was not finished due to the show’s cancellation. It would have served as both a conclusion to the current story as well as a re-imagining of the series had the show continued into a fourth season.” Requiem was recorded as an audio show paired with scenes from a graphic novel (more info on this below).
